mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

                                                Captain’s Newsletter,

                                                Norton game 4/2016 – Norton 10th, 2016.

Dear Fellow Nomads,

We had 114 players at Norton Golf Club with 2 prospective members and 4 guests. Zero no shows! We were joined by past captain of Perth Australia, Gus Augustus, and President of Zimbabwe Junior Golf, Themba Sibanda.

Monthly Sponsor

Many thanks to our monthly Sponsors, Caleb Tapfuma & Batirai Manhando ,for once again sponsoring one of our monthly games.

Norton Course

The staff at Norton had obviously put in a lot of effort preparing the course for our game with tractors out cutting the fast growing rough all around the course. The greens were a little bumpy so putting required a little more than the usual skill whilst chips often popped up instead of rolling forward when hitting the greens. It was, as they always say in Nomads, the same for everyone so no use complaining.

Thank Yous.

Match Secretary, Alison Clark, and her team of ladies, Judy Amira, Madeleine Sly & Alana Chinhara, took the long journey out to Norton very early on Sunday. Norton is always a lengthy day. I am sure you all appreciate what the Nomads Ladies do for us. Thanks very much once again Alison, Judy, Madeleine & Alana.

Our starters, Cliff Johnson and Ben Mukandi, made sure the first guys hit their drives promptly at 8am as was asked of them.

I had the privilege of playing with Norton Captain, Lovemore Mugawo whilst Vice Captain, Clever shared the morning with the Norton Vice Captain Cleopas Manyera. It is always interesting to play with the Captains and their Vice Captains and one always takes away some useful info from these interactions. Most of us are in business and we should use these games to interact with our playing partners finding out how we can mutually benefit each other workwise. Often it is the quiet ones that have the most beneficial stuff to learn about.

I would like to thank Mike Finnagan for making his Fines Sessionlots of fun. If you feel that you might be able to do Fines sessions in future then please speak to our P.R.O., Nyasha Chinhara.

Sick List.

Every month we give details of those Nomads who are, for one reason or another, not well enough to play in our monthly game. Those of you that know any one of them well should make the extra effort to contact and or see them to make them feel that they too are part of our “team”. In March these included the following Nomads: Billy (Hubbly Bubbly) Knox, John Twiggs, Roy Waterworth, Max Karombo, Ben Mukandi and Lyall Wittstock. Please let me know if there are others that I should know about.

Nomads Creed

No Man is an Island entire of itself

Every one if a piece of the continent; a part of the main.

Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind

And, therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee
