mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Captain’s Newsletter, Country Club game 9/2016 – July 31st, 2016.

Dear Fellow Nomads,

We had 121 players at Country Club Golf Club with 4 prospective members and 1 guest. Zero no shows!

Servcor - Monthly Sponsor

Many thanks to Christine Robinson of Servcorfor sponsoring our monthly game.

Servcor (Pvt) Limited has been providing professional, cost effective catering solutionsto customers throughout Zimbabwe for over 39 years. They have a staff compliment of around 680 employees and cater at Mines, Schools, and Industrial Canteens producing around 20 000 meals on a daily basis.

I am sure you all enjoyed the Nestle Coffeethat was given out to all the players alongside the 10th Tee. Servcor provide a range of ingredients of use within the machines including their own pre-mix tea, Coffee or just plain water in 19 litre bottles.

Nomads would like to thank Servcorvery much for their generous sponsorship and we ask you all to support them whenever you can.

Lyall Wittstock

Past Captain Lyall Wittstock passed away in Joburg the week before this game so we said a few good words about Lyall and had a minute’s silence whilst the Nomads Creed was read in remembrance of another committed Nomad laid to rest. MHDSRIP.

Country Club Course

The overall condition of this was course was good considering that they too do not have a large core of members that they can rely on to finance expenditure. Sad to see that the water hazard next to the 6th Tee box is now completely dry – there were always African Jacana and Red Knobbed Coot darting around the water skipping over the lily pads. Hopefully this will revive now that the water bowsers have stopped their terrible drainage of the Country club Boreholes

Thank Yous.

Match Secretary, Alison Clark, and her team of ladies, Judy Amira & Lynn Tapson. I am sure you all appreciate what the Nomads Ladies do for us. Thanks very much once again Alison, Judy, & Lynn.

Our starters, Rod Bennett and Greg Pozzomade sure the first guys hit their drives promptly at 11am as was asked of them. Thanks too to Gordon Mackenzie who came in specially to co-ordinate the 2 starters with the players.

I played with Country Club Captain, Martin Honde, whilst Vice Captain, Clever shared the morning with the Vice Captain Stanley Ruseke.

Long serving Lay Preacher, Simon Gambiza gave a humorous fines session collecting some useful funds for the kitty. If you feel that you might be able to do Fines sessions in future then please speak to our P.R.O., Nyasha Chinhara.

Sick List.

Every month we give details of those Nomads who are, for one reason or another, not well enough to play in our monthly game. Those of you that know any one of them well should make the extra effort to contact and or see them to make them feel that they too are part of our “team”. In July these included the following Nomads: Stan Swaile, Billy (Hubbly Bubbly) Knox, Roy Waterworth, Max Karombo and Wellington Chando. Please let me know if there are others that I should know about.

Honorary Life Member

Stan Swaile was presented with his Honorary Life Membership by National Chairman Obed Dube. Stan has been a dedicated Nomad since he joined as a Nomad 38 years ago having been a Captain and National Chairman as well as a regular sponsor of Nomads Competitions over the years. We as Mashonaland Nomads would like to thank Stan for the magnificent example and standards he has set in his pursuit of the Nomads ideals. We look forward to seeing many other Nomads following his high benchmark.

We could like to wish him all the best with these endeavours and look forward to him joining us on other occasions during his one year term of office

Nomads Creed

No Man is an Island entire of itself

Every one if a piece of the continent; a part of the main.

Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind

And, therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee
