mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

                                                BORROWDALE BROOKE GAME-27TH NOVEMBER 2016

Dear Fellow Nomads,

We played our first game for year 2017 and the 2016 Gold Cup on 27TH November 2016 at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club, the day’s field was 116 players, one guest and unfortunately we had two no shows. The weather forecast was that the Sunday was going to be pouring the whole day, and indeed it was raining but not that bad so we all had a fairly enjoyable day. Thank you all for playing in the rain to support this very important day on our Calendar.

Monthly and Gold Cup Sponsors

The monthly game was kindly sponsored by Tony Muller of Swiss Motors and the Gold Cup game generously sponsored by Eliot Shonhiwa of Tata Motors. The Sponsorship was fantastic, Mashonaland Nomads is very grateful for the support and appeal to our members to please support our Sponsors so that they are able to continue to be our partners in this regard.

Borrowdale Brooke course

History has it that the Brooke is very good hunting ground for many of our members judging from the number of silver trays awarded for monthly games played here. The course as usual was in briliant condition, the greens were excellent, nice and soft but our PRO Nyasha Chinhara had a point or two to prove. Despite the wet conditions the course layout was something else, we played from some tee-boxes we have never seen before and for sure no 40 pointer was recorded on the day.

I would like to sincerely thank The Brooke Management and staff for their efforts to make sure all our meetings are memorable ones despite the challenging circumstances in Zimbabwe at the moment. Well done Team Borrowdale Brooke.

Thank Yous.

Our Nomads ladies Alison, Lyn, Alana and Judy we can never say thank you enough for your contribution to our monthly meetings. You really make it happen for us, the registration, compilation of results, raffles etc , etc we very much appreciate your support and commitment to Nomads thank you very much.

Our starters, a thankless job you do, waking up early morning to see us tee-off on time. Greg Pozzo, Rod Bennet and Gordon Mackenzie you did it so well gentlemen and we are forever grateful for your contribution to our great Club.

The Resident Pro Stu Stovold, a special thank you to you for once again allowing us free use of the driving range and balls before playing. We very much appreciate this generous gesture.

V J Patel and Kutaura Enterprises- Kindly donated Starters Gazebos to be used at all our monthly games. They were used for the first time at Borrowdale Brooke on this rainy day and tell you what they became very handy our starters can testify. Thank you V J for your support to Nomads it is very much appreciated by all of us at Mashonaland.

FINES MASTER

Patrick Cornish, they say experience is the best teacher and for sure you demonstrated it . Your fines session was short, humorous and made quite a few people pay including myself just in time otherwise Julian Borcherds would be the one in trouble. Many thanks for your support

ORANGE BOWL JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT

Keeping in line with one of Nomads’s major objectives the furtherance of golf a brief press conference was held before the game where Nomads offered to support the best Junior Golfer who qualifies to go and play in the prestigious annual Orange Bowl Tournament in the United States of America. National Chairman Obed Dube assured The Zimbabwe Junior Golf Union that Nomads will do their best to assist the top Junior golfer who qualifies for this tournament going forward. He expressed need for transparency and accountability for the donated funds.

Young David Amm was the recipient this year and sufficient money was raised from Nomads and individual members to enable him to travel and play a few practice rounds before the main tournament.

We have since received reports that he played very well in the Greg Norman Junior Invitational where he finished tie second, and finished T35 out of 56 players for the major tournament .We are hopeful that this was good experience for him and should do much better in future.

Richard Morgan many thanks for keeping the Website up to date, it is appreciated by us all.
