CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER
WINGATE GAME 12 TH FEBRUARY 2017
Dear Fellow Nomads,
We had a total of 137 players, and 6 guests. There was 1 no show reported. However a letter of apology was received later on sunday indicating that the member concerned had to travel urgently for his wife to receive medical attention overseas. We do not expect to record no shows at our monthly games at all because there is no justification for it and disciplinary action will be taken as per our constitution. We had 6 early leavers. It really was great, thank you all for playing and attending prize giving which shows your support and respect for our sponsors and the day ‘s proceedings.
Monthly Sponsor –Agrippa Mugwagwa and Desmond Matete
I understand the two members have been sponsoring a monthly game in their individual capacity since 2015. We all know that it is not easy to sponsor under current difficult economic conditions in Zimbabwe. We therefore salute you two gentlemen and say this is what makes a big difference to the success of our great club. We appeal to many more members to emulate this generous and noble gesture. Many thanks to you two please keep up the good work Nomads Mashonaland is very grateful for your support.
Wingate Golf Club
You will agree with me that this time of the year a number of golf clubs are in bad shape, because of the rains. Wingate was in very good condition and I would like to say to Di ,Captain Mupfudza and your team thank you so much for preparing the course for us. I think the course was in a fantastic condition, I therefore do not expect to hear any complaint about the course except for those few who always find themselves in funny places and had problems with trees. All I can say to them is sorry guys we cannot help you.
To Wingate, Nomads Mashonaland appreciates very much what you do for us, the course ,the service and all. It is always a pleasure to have a game here, given a chance we may be back some time this year.
Thank Yous.
Past Captain Denis Tapson for standing in for Vice Captain Julian Borcherds who could not make it due to ill health, thank you mate for your help.
To our Nomads ladies, our sincere thanks to Alison, Lyn and Alana for coming to Wingate to help with the administration of our monthly game. What can I say, we bank on you and we derive so much comfort in knowing that you are there for us and you get the job done and done properly.
We can never say it enough, thank you ladies we very much appreciate your efforts and commitment to Nomads.
We were also privileged to be joined by Clair Mcmillan. Thank you Clair for gracing our day.
We thank and express our sincere appreciation to the Wingate Golf Club Captain Wilfred Mupfudza and his Vice Nick Tambling for spending the day with us and their efforts in ensuring that service was very good. I have no doubt that we all had a pleasant and enjoyable day.
Our sincere thanks to our starters for the day Rod Bunnet and Gordon Mackenzie. Thank you gentlemen for starting the day for us and ensuring the big field tee off times were adhered to. Your contribution to Nomads will never be taken for granted, we put great value to it.
Special thank you to three Midlands Nomads Itayi Mutiza, Tapiwa Pasi, and Silas Munanzvi who Played with us, and of course Marshall Huntingford from Nomads Botswana who attended our prize giving. Thank you gentlemen it was great having you around and I hope you all enjoyed the Nomadic Camaraderie and had a good time.
Fines Session
Honorary Member Barry Bakewell, in this case they have it right when they say it gets better with age, like wine. You had a fantastic and humourous fines session. I am positive that all those who paid fines did so with smiles on their faces especially Desmond Matete, I am very happy that you paid.
Barry thank you so much for a job weldone.
Herewith this month rules advise from Honorary Member Barry Bakewell
LOST BALL
If you think your ball may be lost or out of bounds you may play a provisional ball.
The provisional ball becomes the ball in play once you make a stroke from the point where you think the lost ball should be.
REMEMBER you have five minutes to locate the ball but this does not mean you wait five minutes before waving on the players behind.
YOU SHOULD WAVE THEM SOON AFTER YOU BEGIN THE SEARCH.
Sick List.
On the sick list we have Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo and Vice Captain Julian Borcherds we wish them a speedy recovery. If you know of any Nomad not feeling well please advice me, Julian Borcherds or any Committee member so that we can visit or call to see how they are doing. It makes a big difference to them, knowing that we remember them during difficult times.
Special welcome to Steve Kada who joined us on Sunday after a long while without playing due to ill health. It was great Steve to have you among us and picking a prize in the process we are very happy to have you back my brother.
Gary Player
Team entries have now closed, the first round draw has been done for the 47 teams contesting, we wished we had a few more teams participating . However thank you so much to all of you playing and weldone to Richard Morgan for your efforts in this regard. Let the game begin and the best team win.
