CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER
ROYAL HARARE GAME 5TH MARCH 2017
Dear Fellow Nomads,
We had a total of 138 players, 2 prospectives and 3 guests. Sadly we had 1 no show reported, I strongly believe that this should not be happening at all. My follow up on this matter established that it was a matter of communication break down between our match secretary and the member concerned.
We had 9 early leavers recorded which means most of the people who played attended prize giving which is great and we thank you so much for your support and respect for our sponsors.
Your committee is humbled by your support and will do our level best to ensure that our meetings continue to be enjoyable.
NATIONAL CHAIRMAN’OFFICIAL VISIT- OBED DUBE
The National Chairman made his last official visit to Mashonaland and expressed a lot of satisfaction about the way our Club has been running with particular reference to furtherance of golf, rememberance of those less fortunate than us and above all how we conduct our monthly games and Executive meetings. He expressed his wish that other clubs should try and copy our way of doing business.
He also expressed the need for those who take up office to commit for the period required for their tour of duty in line with the provisions of our constitution.
He concluded by making an appeal for us as the biggest club to support our upcoming Nomads Nationals at Victoria Falls to ensure that they are a success.
MONTHLY GAME SPONSORS- HEALTH INTERNATIONAL ( DENIS TAPSON)
Health International is a long time sponsor of Nomads, I can safely say that their support spans over tens years at least. I am proud to say this is the kind of support which makes Nomads a great Club. I would like on behalf of Nomads Mashonaland to sincerely thank Health International- Claims Manager Denis Tapson for their generous sponsorship, particularly so given the current economic environment in Zimbabwe.
My kind appeal to our members is please support our sponsors so that they are able to continue to partner us.
ROYAL HARARE GOLF CLUB
As usual I am sure we all found the course to be in a fantastic condition. I have no doubt that quite a number of us used to playing at country courses found the conditions too good for comfort. On the other hand the good golfers among us have been saying this is it, but all in all I am sure we all had great fun. I therefore would like to thank Royal Harare Captain, Management and staff for doing a great job for us.
The catering and bar service was excellent and Nomads Mashonaland very much appreciate the efforts you make in preparation for our meeting here. Thank you Royal Harare we will be back later in the year.
THANK YOU’S

Our Nomads ladies sincere thanks to Alison, Lyn and Alana for coming to help us with the administration of our monthly game. I have said it before and I will continue to do so because you really give us comfort in knowing that you are there and you are very much committed to get the job done and for sure you get it done and done properly.

A special thank you to the following ladies for gracing our prize giving- Shirley Jonker, Bev Holmes, Pearl Muller, Coleen Morgan and my wife Muchaneta. Ladies we realy felt privileged to have you around thank you so much.
Fines Session
Past Captain Dumi Mabhena had a short and sweet fine session which gave us an insight about how Nomads mafia operates. We noticed that it takes quite some time for one to understand the operations of this group but my take was that if you need to know more you should talk to Honorary life Member John Clark.
Dumi weldone I have no doubt that you will be back at it again very soon.
Sick List.
On the sick list we have Eliot Shoniwa who has problems with his ankle. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him at our next game.
Meanwhile we a very happy to see Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo and Vice Captain Julian Borcherds are on the mend and were able to join us at this meeting.
If you know of any member who is not feeling well, please let me, Julian, Alison or any member of the committee know so that we can visit or call them to find out how they are doing.
Gary Player
The first round draw has been circulated and games must be played and results given to Richard Morgan by 2nd April, 2017. Please all concerned respect the deadlines so that games are played according to plan. Once again special thanks to Richard for his efforts in this regard.
Induction of New Nomad Lady
We inducted Alana Chinhara who is in her early 30’s and is a qualified Chartered Accountant who did not like numbers and moved into marketing field. She is currently the Head of Retail Marketing for Liquid Telecoms based at local Zol Office.
She has been married to the infamous Nyasha Chinhara for 8 years ( she needs a medal for that)

Alana enjoys going to the gym and being a teacher in the children’s church and the occasion glass of red wine.
Welcome to Nomads Alana and we wish you a long association with this prestigious Club.

-AWAY GAME 1- We had our first away game for the year on 26th February 2017 at Marondera Golf Club, which was very successful. We had a total of 54 players 49 of which were Nomads. Those who participated will agree with me that the course was in a fantastic state and the hospitality was as usual brilliant.
We gave the Club just over a thousand United States Dollars which I believe was great and thank you so much to our six Marondera based Nomads Members for sponsoring this game, and all of you who supported this furtherance of golf initiative.
To julian and Theo it being your first well done it went on very well.
We have since received a thank you letter from the Marondera Golf Club Committee indicating that the funds we raised will be used to repair both ladies and gents toilets. They are very grateful for our support.
-NOMADS HOUSE BAR- We had our first social at Nomads House on 24th February 2017 dubbed the FDFF evening which started at 4 30 pm and was very successful. All those who guessed the meaning of FDFF correct got their first drinks for free, my one was a glass of borehole water from the Barman Honorary Member Gordon Mackenzie. May be it’s a good way to start.
The evening was so enjoyable such that I was practically useless the following morning, I kept Gordon very busy that’s all I can say. Thank you so much to all members who came to support this initiative. It is your Committee’s wish to promote the Nomadic Comaraderie and our next Social Evening is on the 31st March 2017 starting at 4 30 pm, and we promise it will be better than the first one.
I understand from Gordon wives, partners, and girl friends are all important at Nomadic meetings so this evening will be dubbed FDFF. If you bring a lady and guess the meaning of FDFF right you may save a lot of money.
Please bring your friends and let us make use of our facility and enjoy the Nomadic Spirit.
