NOMADS FALCON GAME CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER-10TH SEPTEMBER 2017
ATTENDANCE
We had the smallest field so far this year with 94 players with 4 prospectives and 6 guests. Unfortunately we had one no show whose apology was received rather late.
It is understandable that the rather low turnout is due to the condition of the course, but I strongly believe that this is where we demonstrate our Nomadic spirit and the furtherance of golf objective. Our visit to these small and struggling clubs makes a big difference to their cash flow and to a great extend help them survive. They really look forward to our visit every year.
We very much appreciate the support from all the members who came to Falcon and we sincerely thank you for braving the challenges and hope that this Nomadic spirit will continue for many years to come.
MONTHLY SPONSOR-MARSH INSURANCE BROKERS- SAM NYAMHAMBA/PATRICK MURAMBADORO
This game was once again generously sponsored by Marsh Insurance Brokers who sponsored our second game for 2017 at Ruwa Golf Club back in January.
We all know that the economic environment is very tough out there, so we are forever grateful to Marsh insurance Brokers represented by their Managing Director Sam Nyamhamba and their Business Development Manager Patrick Murambadoro for their support to Nomads Mashonaland.
Our usual appeal to our members is that please let us support our sponsors so that they derive some business benefits from their association with Nomads. Please give them a chance to quote whenever opportunities arise.
FALCON GOLF CLUB MANAGEMENT AND STAFF
The Club has a very small membership and obviously struggling for financial resources to maintain the course. There is a lot that could have been done to make the course better for our day, but given their circumstances I am satisfied that they indeed tried to make our day successful.
We therefore sincerely thank them for what they did for us, I really found the catering to be satisfactory and the food very good and reasonably priced.
When it is all said and done, I have no doubt in my mind that our meeting at Falcon made a big difference to the survival of the Club and thank you all for being part of the nomadic lot.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING- SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2017
No major issues were raised as Clubs were reported to be running well and are all in sound financial condition but notable comments were as follows;
-Botswana Nationals 14th -16th September 2017- The Chairman noted that the Zimbabwean Delegation behaved very well, played very well and should have been winners of the tournament but were pipped by Zambia because they had fewer players than us, so their average score was marginally better than ours. Need to make sure the playing field is level. Important to note is that our (Sekuru Bemba) Anil Gulab was overall runner up on a fantastic score of 70 points, losing to Mike Fick of South Africa who shot 71 points over the two days.
-Charity Day Accounts- All Clubs to have their Charity Day Accounts complete and submitted to National Council by their Gold Cup Game.
-Nomads 2018 Diary- Diary will be produced with member details taken from the Samson System, but Club Membership officers should provide members’s company details because they are not in the Samson system.
-Proposed Membership Welfare Fund- The proposal I made as Mashonaland Captain to put in place a fund to assist our members in cases of serious and desperate medical needs was discussed at length, but referred to individual clubs to pursue the matter to their satisfaction. Will put the matter up for discussion at our AGM.
SWAZILAND NATIONALS-20TH-22ND OCTOBER 2017- Entries closed on 16th June 2017, Mashonaland has taken up 27 places, those concerned have been duly advised.
SOUTH AFRICA NATIONALS -3RD -9TH March 2018- These nationals are taking place at Royal Cape Golf Club, Cape Town. Entry forms have been received and circulated. Closing date for entries is 31st October2017, by which date 50% of the entry fee must be paid and the remaining 50% must be paid by 31st December 2017.
The cost of the entry fee is R3900,00 or USD 310,00 and for partners R1200,00 or USD 95,00 these monies unfortunately must be paid in cash (no bond notes). All interested members should submit their entry forms to the coordinator Denis Tapson. Please note that no late entries will be accepted.
NOMADS MASHONALAND 50TH ANNIVESARY-5TH -7TH October 2018- Preparations for our 50th Anniversary are progressing well, a special account for this occasion has been opened at CABS- NOMADS 50TH ANNIVERSARY ACCOUNT NUMBER 1006345876. All members are kindly requested to make a $20,00 contribution to this event and your contribution can be deposited into this account and advise the Coordinating Committee Treasurer Past Captain Mike Finigan. As usual your support will be greatly appreciated.
NOMADS MASHONALAND 2017 CHARITY DAY- 24TH September 2017- Congratulations to Vice Captain Julian Borcherds and his Committee for hosting a very successful Charity Golf Tournament. A total of over $35 000,00 was raised , that is excluding the medical equipment donated by Physionet in the UK. This was a major achievement by the team considering the prevailing economic challenges.
We obviously express our sincere thanks to all Sponsors, guests and members who supported this noble cause. We have championed one of Nomads’s major objective the remembrance of those less fortunate than us in a big way. Well done Julian and your Charity Day Committee for a wonderful job.
NOMADS MATABELELAND CHARITY DAY 15TH OCTOBER 2017- An invitation has been received from Matabeleland Vice Captain Wilfred Chinembiri for all Mashonaland Members who may want to join Nomads Matabeleland for their Charity Golf Day on Sunday 15th October 2017 at Bulawayo Golf Club. NOMADS MASHONALAND JUNIOR GOLF DAY-5TH SEPTEMBER 2017 AT CHAPMAN GOLF CLUB- As it has now become tradition Nomads Mashonaland sponsored the August Junior Golf Tournament which was played at Chapman Golf Club on 5th September 2017. This year’s tournament was special in the sense that in addition to the usual lunches, green fees, accommodation for visiting junior plyers and prizes this time we also included some Nomads branded golf shirts and a goodie bag for all the participating juniors which was excellent. Our budget for the tournament was $3000,00.
Special thank you to our Junior Golf Officer Caleb Tapfuma and his team who worked very hard to put this tournament together. It was very pleasing to see a few of our members who came to Chapman for our tournament day on Tuesday and also attended Prize giving on Friday at Warren Hills Golf Club. Sadly these were mostly past captains not many new Nomads were insight despite our appeal earlier on.
I am positive that we have done a good job in supporting our furtherance of golf objective and also marketing our great club to these prospective future golfers and club members.
ENTRY FEE PAYMENT THROUGH SWIPE- Regrettably this has become a permanent feature to our operations. We therefore appeal to you all to please pay up front to avoid congestion at the check in desk or come early to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the ladies. We certainly do not have control over connectivity issues so please bear with us in this regard.
NOMADS HOUSE BAR- As usual being the last Friday of the month tomorrow 29th September 2017 the bar at Nomads House will be open from 4:30 pm till late. The Barman Honorary Life Member Gordon Mackenzie will be waiting to welcome you and family and or with friends. Prices for both beers and whisky are the best in town. This is our beautiful facilitate there for you to enjoy. I look forward to sharing some jokes with some new faces tomorrow.
FINES SESSION
After a fairly long break from the podium Simon (CELLLUAR) Gambiza had an excellent fine session loaded with cracking jokes. We did not know that our good friend Elywn Mudungwe had prominent friends and my big brother Soul Rukatya needed a mind renewal.
It was a wonderful fine session Simon you had them all paying with smiles on their faces. Well done, I am sure we will see you back at it again soon.
SICK LIST
Our Past Captain and Past National Chairman Enock Moyo is now out of hospital recovering at home. It really was pleasing to see him at Borrowdale Brooke on Sunday after a very long period in hospital. We wish him speed recovery and look forward to seeing him at our monthly meetings as usual.
If you know of any member who is not feeling well please let me or any member of the Executive Committee know so that we can call them and find out how they are doing. In my view this is very important because it shows that we care about our mates when they are not feeling well.
