mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

NOMADS COUNTRY CLUB GAME CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER-8TH OCTOBER 2017

ATTENDANCE

We had a total field of 115 players with 2 prospectives and 6 guests. We were privileged to have a visiting Nomad Mel Clements from New Zealand. Mel is Past Captain for Nomads Mashonaland and we hope the he rekindled some old good memories in Zimbabwe and Country Club in particular. Unfortunately we had 2 no shows and 10 early leavers. The committee will follow up on the no show cases to establish why the members concerned did not pitch up for the game when their names were on the draw which was duly circulated to all Nomads members.

Like I have said before, I strongly believe that no shows are absolutely unnecessary and should not be allowed to continue without attracting some form of punishment. I therefore propose that with immediate effect all no shows will have to pay the full playing fee for the day. This means for them to be allowed to play they must pay double entry fee amount at the next game they are available to play. A record will be kept for perennial offenders who must be subjected to stiffer penalties, which may include suspension.

I am very happy though to report that despite the prevailing economic conditions our average fields at our monthly meetings are very good at well over 100 players, more so our prize giving attendance is over 90% which is very good. It shows that our members respect our sponsors and are committed to the proceedings of the day. Your Committee is very grateful for your support and continued commitment to our great Club.

MONTHLY SPONSOR-NORTIC TRUCKING- CLEVER AND MUCHANETA CHIKWARI

This game was generously sponsored by Nortic Business Services (pvt) Ltd represented by Directors Muchaneta and Captain Clever Chikwari. We are privileged to be associated with Nomads and it is always a pleasure for us to support Nomads whenever we can. We sincerely thank our valued customers for their business support which enables us to extend this small gesture and Nomads Mashonaland for the opportunity to sponsor this year.

Just for the benefit of those who may not be aware of our business activities, our core business is trucking, we move general cargo from anywhere to anywhere within Zimbabwean borders. In addition we have recently diversified into hardware and groceries retail, trading as Nortic Cash and carry at Juru Growth Point, which is 50km along the Harare Nyamapanda Highway, and One Stop Farming and Building Warehouse which is in Waterfalls along Simon Mazorodze before Mbudzi round about if you are driving towards Masvingo.

Whilst we are still a small business, our promise is that our rates and prices are very competitive and our assurance to all prospective customers is try us and you will not be disappointed.

COUNTRY CLUB GOLF MANAGEMENT AND STAFF

The Course was dry and cracked in some areas which is expected this time of the year. I am sure that quite a number of members benefited from some good kicks and some got some really bad ones I suppose this is part of the funny. Our senior members and those who do not hit them that far also benefited from the extra run.

It was very pleasing to note that a lot of effort had been done to prepare the course and club facilities for our monthly game. We sincerely thank Club management and staff for all their hard work to ensure we had what I believe was a very successful meeting.

Special thank you to Country Club Golf Vice Captain Neil Moyo who joined to play with us and we hope that he enjoyed the game and the Nomadic camaraderie.

THANK YOU’S

NOMADS LADIES- Alison, Lyn and Alana as usual we sincerely thank them for coming to Country Club to assist us with the administration of our game. Fellow Nomads these ladies are doing an amazing job for our Club and my humble suggestion is that whenever you pass through their desk there is absolutely no harm in you offering them a drink or bring them a chocolate bar. They are doing an awesome job for us and we should show them our appreciation for their selfless contribution.

STARTERS- Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo, Honorary Member Gordon Mackenzie and Rod Bennet were at Country Club again to see us tee-off as scheduled. Your commitment to Nomads gentlemen is very much appreciated by us all and we are forever grateful for what you are doing for Nomads Mashonaland.

ANNOUNCEMENTS.

SWAZILAND NATIONALS-20TH-22ND OCTOBER 2017- A total of 38 Zimbabweans travelled to Swaziland but we did not fair that well this time, we came overall fifth. Regrettably I was one of those who did not play well, too much funny I suppose. I am sure those who travelled will agree with me that these Nationals were well run and the Camaraderie was as usual awesome. We all had a great time.

Special mention Pride Masamba who had a very good round over the two days total 68 points and was only two points short of the overall winning score of 70. Pride was eclectic C Division winner and was counted out into 2nd place C division for day two on 36 points. He was the Zimbabwean Champion and collected a few dollars in the process.

Francis Bwanya had a hole in one on day two, unfortunately it was on the wrong hole, not the one which had a car to be won, otherwise he would have hired a driver to drive the other car. Congratulations to the two and well played.

On the lottery side Billy Knox was tops, he won a beautiful set of Galloway Golf Clubs and bag on the last day raffle draw.

Our Friends across the Zambezi came tops again like they did in Botswana.
