mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

NOMADS MASHONALAND 3RD AWAY GAME – 18TH NOVEMBER 2017 MONT CLAIR HOTEL AND CASINO- I am very happy to advise that preparations for our 3rd away game have been going on very well. Plans are that we hire a bus to travel to Nyanga early morning leaving Nomads House at 6 am play shot gun start at 12 noon on the Saturday.

The cost of hiring a bus have been firmed at $27,OO and $45,00 per person for a 60 or 22 seater bus respectively, that is assuming we make these numbers. Accommodation including breakfast, green fees and halfway has been negotiated at $70,00 single and $100,00 for two people sharing. The bus will leave Nyanga the following morning to be in Harare in good time and avoid night driving.

This away game is kindly sponsored by Montclair Hotel and Casino represented by William Nyemba and Brian Nyakutombwa who have promised us that prizes for the winners will be fantastic. Our PRO Theo Kumalo has been working on this project for quite some time and has assured me that a lot of work has been put on the course so it will be in a condition for us all to have an enjoyable golfing day.

We therefore kindly ask all those interested to please put your names down indicating preferred mode of transport at our next game at Wingate, this will facilitate the securing of the right size bus based on the numbers involved. Please note payment will be required at some point to finalize bus hiring and finer details will be given to you in due course.

FINES SESSION

Vince Nyumbu as usual had a hilarious fines session, hitting the alcoholic brothers, Past Captain Dumi Mabhena for spelling mistakes which ended up being Past Captain V J Patel’s fine. Thank you so much for your contribution, it is very much appreciated.

SICK LIST

Our Mashonaland Executive Committee Sponsorship Officer, Past Captain and Past National Chairman Enock Moyo is now out of hospital recovering at home. He tells me that he is almost fit. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him at our monthly meeting soon.

Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo was in Hospital not so long ago, but now up and about. We wish you all the best Baba.

If you know of any member who is not feeling well please let me know so that we can call to check on how they are doing.

Just for your information please note that our Member Amos Zirema lost his mother not so long ago. I understand Gogo Zirema was over 100 years old. Our deepest condolences to Amos and his Family on the loss of their mother, and we pray and hope that the good lord will give them strength to navigate these difficult times of morning. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.

As usual the game results have long been posted on our website and I hope that you are all accessing them without any difficulty, but just the highlights;

A Division winner Ben funani who shot a fantastic 37 points off 4 handicap, he won the Florence Trophy and Stu Stovold was runner up also on a fantastic 37 points off 4 handicap after counting out Julius Marufu also on 37 points off 8 handicap.

C Division winner Underus Hove who shot 42 points off 20 handicap, he won the Thornton Trophy. The runner up was my Gary Player Partner Rupert Brine who shot 41 points off 20 handicap. These two gentlemen really took advantage of course knowledge because they are both members at Country Club. I hope the handicapper will do the necessary here.
