mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Good day Gentleman,

Your Vice Captain did a very nice bit of PRO work for the Nomads house recently, & the Trustees thought it would be appropriate time to give an update to the Mashonaland members on what has been done and what is planned in the next couple months, at the house.

Fundraising is an ongoing exercise, and we have been fortunate in getting $500 from Auckland NZ nomads, Mike Trew, & Elephant Hills Resort.

As mentioned by your VC, we managed get a second hand  46” flat screen TV, donated by Daryl Archibald, of Dendairy, and some time ago  Cecil Holmes donated a decoder, satellite dish and a TV, so  this  has  all been  set up at the house.

We are having “challenges”, in getting the decoder registered in Zimbabwe, but Norman Raisbeck of DSTV, has donated   one to Nomads, which is now up & running. When the SA one gets cleared we can sell it. We intend to get a schedule of future sporting events & plan some functions around these. Rugby WC coming up, and being in England good times for Zim viewers. Remember this facility is available to Nomads for a nominal fee, so please take advantage of this facility. Got a very nice barman (Gordon Mackenzie), who will help you out with advice.

On the subject of bookings, please remember you must phone Gordon Mackenzie to make a booking. The house is used over the weekends for anniversaries, birthdays etc so book early to avoid disappointment

Gus Augustus, a past member of Mashonaland for many years & now Captain of Perth Nomads has left behind quite a lot of property & belongings  & has asked Nomads to help dispose of the items. He has left everything up to us, whether we sell it, use it or give it to Charity & so far we have taken to the Nomads house, 5 boxes of clothing, bar stools & a bar (still to be collected). On the premises, there are interlocking walling blocks, which we want to collect & use (who can offer a 7 tonne flatbed, to move the stuff to the Nomads house????)  Inside the office, there are 2 way radios, ship to shore radios etc etc, some of which are pretty valuable. If anyone is interested, please contact me, as I am the only one with a key.

Greg Pozzo is also looking for panels of partitioning. We want to convert the garage into 2 storerooms, for prizes & equipment. If you can help, please contact Greg direct. If anyone knows of a container lying idle, we would like to use this to store all the Golforama equipment.

The new bar area that Mike referred to is coming on nicely. Greg doing a great job on this, new ceiling very effective & scrounged by Greg for free!!! We also want to install trellidor/xpanda/slamlock security gates instead of doors, so any of our Nomad  security guys who want to show off their product and have a bit of advertising, please contact one of the Trustees. (GREG/STAN SWAILE/SIMON RICK/JOHN CLARK/ DUMI MABHENA OR MYSELF)

As you can see, things are happening and a lot of work has /is being put into the House for Nomads & others to enjoy a great entertainment/conference/venue area.  Subs for the DSTV, is $83.00 per month, any sponsors for this would be appreciated. (monthly/yearly) 9 guys @ $10pm. ???

We are still looking at improving the parking facilities, but Finances are preventing us doing this. I’m sure there are some Company’s out there who would like advertise their Company/ products in the parking area. Remember, this advertising will for be for as long as Nomads exist, which I’m sure will be for a very long time, so it’s well worth taking advantage of this.

I have been writing thank you letters to various people, one of them to Nick Price & Mark McNulty. I have today received a reply from Mark, thanking us for the photos and I quote ‘WOW, the garden looks great.’ Thanks Sue Pozzo & Jan Oosthuizen.

Latest addition are the drop blinds. This, we were able to do because the 2 side panels were donated by a Nomad. Greg Pozzo has donated a small geyser for the kitchen, so after a few years, we have hot water in the kitchen for washing glasses etc.

The trailer is presently parked in the garage, but as mentioned above, we want to convert this into offices but obviously have to keep the trailer safe, so we intend building a secure carport. We require 4 poles 2, 5 m x 3” diameter and angle iron – anyone willing to donate this, please contact me.

We have taken some more photos for you to see for yourselves, the goings on at the house. We need your support!

Yours in Nomads,

Corrie van Rensburg (OBO Trustees)
