mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

NOMADS WARREN HILLS GAME CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER-20TH AUGUST 2017

ATTENDANCE

We had a field of 108 players with 2 prospectives and 9 guests. Unfortunately we had two no shows one of which was a guest. It is very sad indeed that we have continued to report no shows which I believe are absolutely unnecessary.

It is very pleasing to note that up to this game we have 37 members who have played all the games so far. A special thank you gentlemen for your commitment to Nomads.

MONTHLY SPONSOR-FREIGHT WORLD- BEN MUKANDI AND FELIX NYARUWANGA

The Warren Hills monthly game was kindly sponsored by Freight World represented by their Managing Director Felix Nyaruwanga, unfortunately their Executive Chairman Ben Mukandi could not be with us because he was still attending to family issues after the passing on of his son Shingi.

We know that the going is very difficult for all businesses in Zimbabwe at the moment and we are very grateful for this generous gesture extended to us by Freight world and would like to sincerely thank them for their support to Nomads. We are aware that Freight World has been supporting Nomads for the last couple of years now and would like to kindly appeal to our members to please support our sponsors so that they derive some value from their association with our great Club Nomads.

WARREN HILLS GOLF CLUB MANAGEMENT AND STAFF

It was a bit disappointing that we were not able to tee off at 11 am as per our course booking because A league players were still on the course, as a result some of our members only just managed to finish before it was dark.

However, it was very encouraging to note that a lot of work had been done to prepare the course for our game. I am sure we all enjoyed the golf course, the food and service which I believe was quite satisfactory. On behalf of Nomads Mashonaland I would like to thank the Warren Hills Club management and staff for their hospitality. We definitely had a successful day. A special thank you to Club Chairman Colonel Ernest Shamu for spending the day with us and hope that he enjoyed the Nomadic camaraderie.

THANK YOU’S

NOMADS LADIES- Lyn Tapson and Judy Amira who were ably assisted by our National Vice Chairman Denis Tapson, you are always there for us and we sincerely thank you for coming to Warren Hills to assist with the administration of our game. Our treasurer Nyasha Chinhara your help with those swipe machines is very much appreciated mate. Nomads Mashonaland is very grateful for your commitment and support.

STARTERS- Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo and Honorary Member Gordon Mackenzie we thank you sincerely gentlemen for coming to Warren Hills and help with the starting as usual. Unfortunately one of our regular starters Rod Bennett could not make it this time because he lost his mother and we extend our deepest condolences to Rod and his family on the loss of their dear mum.

NOMADS MASHONALAND 2017 CHARITY DAY- 24TH September 2017- Vice Captain Julian Borcherds and his Committee are working very hard on this one. They now have over seven thousand dollars in the bank and have 40 team entries so far for our Charity Golf Day and they are pushing for many more entries. We therefore kindly urge you all, to please support this worthy cause. Remember this one of Nomads’s main objective-the remembrance of those less fortunate than us.

NOMADS MASHONALAND JUNIOR GOLF DAY-5TH SEPTEMBER 2017 AT CHAPMAN GOLF CLUB- As usual Nomads Mashonaland is sponsoring this Annual Junior Golf Tournament which is taking place this coming Tuesday 5th September 2017 at Chapman Golf Club. Our Junior Golf Officer Caleb Tapfuma is kindly appealing to Nomads Mashonaland Members to come and support this occasion as starters and Course Marshalls in Nomads playing kit. This will certainly go a long away in marketing our great club to these future members and again it is one of our main objective the furtherance of golf. We are budgeting to support this tournament to the tune of $3000,00 which will include a T-shirt and Cap for all the players, a goodie bag, accommodation for out of town Junior players and their meals.

ENTRY FEE PAYMENT THROUGH SWIPE- We note that cash is a problem for most of our members, so we kindly urge you to please pay up front and just bring your proof of payment. This is the only way we can avoid delays and challenges of connectivity. Please come early to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on our ladies and the treasurer who are doing a fantastic job for the club.

BARRY BAKEWELL’S CORNER

Barry says he was asked recently what happens if your ball is on the fairway when it is struck by a fellow competitor’s ball which knocks your ball into the rough?

The answer is your ball must be replaced and the ball that struck it is played as it lies.

I hope this will help some of us.

NEXT GAME

Our next game is at Falcon Golf Club on Sunday 10th September, 2017 starting at 8 am. This game is kindly sponsored by Marsh Insurance Brokers represented by their Managing Director Sam Nyamhamba. It is important to note that this is their second monthly game sponsorship having sponsored our first game of the year played at Ruwa Golf Club early in January. We very much appreciate their support and we very strongly urge you all to come and support this meeting.
